More on China and Darfur
Sudan's Foreign Minister announced that he had approved a "heavy support" package for the existing African Union peacekeeping force. The existing force is only about 7800 people, and does not have authorization to use military force to defend civilians. National sovereignty is a cardinal concept of the UN, and nations must almost always approve a peacekeeping force being sent in. Sudan has so far resisted, but it seems the Chinese may have pressured them. Read the Xinhua report, dated yesterday, here. And, of course, continue to pray.
